Following the deportation of Berlin Jews and the closing of all Jewish organisations with the exception of the Jewish hospital, the only Jews left in Berlin where half-Jews and those in mixed marriages who were exempted from deportation and a several thousand Jews who were in hiding. Until the end of the war the Jews in hiding were hunted down and those caught were sent to the east.
